The year 1924 saw the beginning of a new era in the field of education. This year, witnessed a noteworthy contribution made towards women’s education by a group of stalwarts under the headship of Sheth Shri Dhanji Devshi. Their collaborative endeavour led to the establishment of the first ever girls school in the vicinity of Ghatkopar – ‘Sheth Shri Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala.’ It aimed at imparting education through mother tongue – GUJARATI.
Historically, the transformation of traditional society into the modern urban society impelled the need for English education. Keeping into account the contemporary situation, in the year 1985, thirty seven girls were enrolled in pre-primary English medium section initiated in the gujarati medium school building.
The rising expectations to receive education through English, increasing enrolments and financial viability made it possible to have a newly constructed three storeyed building inaugurated as, ‘Sheth Virchand Dhanji Devshi English Medium School’ – 1987.
Dynamism being the very fabric of modern society and co-education being the essence of it; first batch of fifty four boys was admitted in English medium school in 1999. Since then, within the span of thirty years SVDD English Medium School has proliferated as one of the best institutions providing competitive and learner controlled offerings to its students. Today it has become a grandeur co-ed institution with more than 3716 students under its canopy.
