The journey of Sheth Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala began on 1st August, 1923, when a group of visionary philanthropists from Ghatkopar, inspired by the ideals of service and social responsibility, came together to establish a Gujarati-medium school exclusively for girls. Their noble vision and generous contributions laid the foundation of an institution that opened its doors to just 110 students in its first year. A century later, that humble beginning has blossomed into a premier educational institution with a student strength of nearly 4,000 across its various sections. As we celebrate this remarkable legacy of over one hundred years, we take immense pride in the values, achievements and traditions that continue to define our institution.

Our journey has been marked by continuous growth and purposeful transformation. In 1960, the school received permanent recognition from the Education Department of the Government of Maharashtra, strengthening its commitment to quality education. Recognising the changing educational landscape, the institution introduced English as the medium of instruction in 1985, while carefully preserving the richness of the mother tongue and our cultural heritage. To prepare students for the technological age, a computer laboratory was established in 2001, followed by the expansion of the school's infrastructure with a new building in 2002, made possible through the generous donation of Shri Virchand Dhanji. Keeping pace with the rapid advancements in education, digital learning became an integral part of every classroom from 2011 onwards, ensuring that our students benefited from modern teaching methodologies. In 2015, responding to the evolving needs of society, the institution proudly became a co-educational school. Today, we continue to embrace innovation through advanced digital education, robotics and artificial intelligence, equipping our students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an ever-changing world.

At Sheth Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala, academic excellence has always gone hand in hand with character building. Our consistent record of outstanding results in the Board examinations stands as a testimony to the dedication of our teachers, the perseverance of our students and the unwavering support of our parents. However, we firmly believe that education extends far beyond academic success. Our mission is to nurture compassionate, confident and responsible individuals who contribute positively to society. To achieve this, we provide abundant opportunities in sports, music, dance, art, yoga, cultural activities, leadership programmes and community service, enabling every child to discover and develop their unique potential. Our vibrant Annual Day celebrations and cultural programmes reflect India's rich heritage while reinforcing the timeless philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family.

The centenary celebrations of 2022–2023 were a memorable tribute to our glorious past and a celebration of our promising future. A series of meaningful activities, including the Mini Marathon, Kavisammelan, Rangoli competitions for teachers and various inter-school competitions in drawing, elocution, recitation, storytelling and poster making, brought together students, educators and institutions from across Mumbai. These initiatives fostered creativity, healthy competition, unity and a strong sense of community, making the centenary year truly unforgettable.

As we move confidently into our second century, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing holistic, value-based and future-ready education. We aspire to nurture generations of upright citizens, compassionate leaders and lifelong learners who will make meaningful contributions to society. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every member of our teaching and non-teaching staff, our students, parents, alumni and well-wishers, whose unwavering dedication and support have been instrumental in our remarkable journey. With the blessings of our founders and the collective efforts of the entire SDDRS family, I am confident that Sheth Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala will continue to scale greater heights, uphold its cherished traditions and inspire excellence for many generations to come.
